Tutors and Adult Learners Share Their Experience…

"When my student told me that she had read aloud to her family as a Christmas gift, tears started streaming down my cheeks. I could see the pride and confidence in her eyes, a stark contrast to the embarrassment that used to surface."

Tutor Suzanne

When asked how she feels about working with a tutor through CCLC, with tears brimming in her eyes, she shared: "Loved much!"

Adult Learner Isabel from Columbia

It was a big moment for Al and me when he read for the first time. Wish you could have seen the smile on his face when he realized he had just read. Tutor Lynn

Adult Learner Marc shares a reason for improving his own reading and writing skills: "The best way to have a good relationship with your children is to help them with their homework." He also expressed a sincere appreciation for what CCLC provides for him, and for others "who have a goal" and want to get on "the right path."

"When he reads a story and you can see the comprehension, it's just amazing," Tutor June says of her student’s progress. “I have a feeling that if you can read, you've always got a friend!"

Clay County Literacy program and the Adult Education program have helped me. Dianne has encouraged me and assigned me a tutor. Lee has been a great help in preparing me for the G.E. D. test. My teacher Susan has been a very good director. I enjoy coming to my classes…My literacy training is also helping me to read the Bible. Adult Learner Lizzie

"Every time I see a light bulb come on, I get joy out of it." Tutor Al on his experience as a tutor.

“We have learned so much about each other’s cultures and lives, and I feel that I have gained so much from knowing her. She calls me “her angel” but she is truly my angel and I know that she will be my friend for life.” ESL Tutor Lisa speaking about her student from Thailand.

"When I was in the process of becoming an American citizen, I realized the absolute necessity of a real integration to my new country, the United States of America. The first step, as you can easily imagine, was to improve my command of the English language. Thanks to CCLC, I can say today that I am a part of it. CCLC has made it much easier for me to embrace the American culture!" Adult Learner & Volunteer Rose
